About Me

My name is Don Smith. I have a passion for history and a fascination with my ancestral heritage. I’ve been researching our family ancestry since 1978. It started off with short discussions with grandparents and their siblings. Some of it led me on wild goose chases (wrong last names, swap this acestor’s first and middle name with another) and with a lot of Czech (Moravia) ancestry, a LOT of typos. All done on paper.

In the 2005 time frame, I started to use Broderbund’s Family Tree Maker. These were the days of an installed client and CDs shipped to your house. Almost like Blockbuster, only with Genealogy database.

Later I created a family genealogy website on GeoCities only to have Yahoo buy them and eventually shut them down.

About that time I started using Ancestry.com and have been using it ever since. I now have more than 2100 names in our tree and have met some great relatives that also have a passion for Genealogy.

This is my “New” website. I hope you find it enjoyable. I hope you discover something new. And I hope you can help me add to it.
